Japan has grounded dozens of flights and ordered thousands of people to evacuate as it prepares for the impacts a “very strong” typhoon.
Typhoon Ampil has been swerving dangerously close to the east of the country and is expected to bring inclement conditions to areas including eastern region of Kanto, which includes the capital Tokyo today.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said on its website that, “The Kanto region is expected to experience fierce winds that could cause injuries from flying debris or even overturn trucks in motion.”
Iwaki City in Fukushima Prefecture in northeastern Japan issued an evacuation order for about 323,000 residents while Mobara City in Chiba Prefecture east of Tokyo placed an evacuation order for about 18,500 residents.
