Jamaica’s government moves to prevent worker unrest that could lead to water supply issues on the island.
The Jamaica Gleaner reported that an emergency meeting was called by the Ministry of Labour with the unions representing workers of the country’s water agency, the National Water Commission.
The workers have reportedly threatened to strike that could potentially see customers facing lengthy water lock-offs.
The Gleaner stated that a 72-hours strike notice had been served on the NWC.
The more than 2,000 workers want the Government to address their concerns about the new salary bands outlined in the compensation review.
