US police are investigating the background of a gunman arrested in connection with what the FBI says is an apparent assassination attempt against Donald Trump.

This incident comes just two months after Trump survived a shooting in Pennsylvania.

In the latest case, police held the gunman, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, at a Florida golf course where Trump was playing.

Trump later posted online to thank the Secret Service and law enforcement for keeping him safe, describing the day as “interesting.”

Responding to the latest incident, Presidential candidate and current Vice President, Kamala Harris, said, “I am deeply disturbed by the possible assassination attempt of former President Trump…”

She added, “I will be clear: I condemn political violence. We all must do our part to ensure that this incident does not lead to more violence.”

Harris said she was thankful that Trump is safe and also commended the US Secret Service and law enforcement for their “vigilance.”
