A clash between gang affiliates at the Maximum Security Prison has left one inmate dead and two others injured.
The Prison Service says the altercation took place today and quickly escalated, with those involved attacking each other with improvised weapons.
It says the Emergency Response Unit quickly responded, bringing the situation under control.
One of the inmates subsequently succumbed to injuries sustained, while two others were recommended for further medical treatment.
The name of the deceased has not been given.
None of the prison’s staff was injured during the ordeal.
Acting Prisons Commissioner Carlos Corraspe has since assured that the institution is back to a state of normalcy, with action also taken at all other facilities to enhance security and safety.
The TTPS’ Criminal Investigation Department and Homicide Bureau of Investigation are now investigating the death of the inmate.
