Indian construction workers finally rescued from tunnel

Crews have finally rescued 41 construction workers who had been trapped in a tunnel in northern India since November 12th.

They were extracted one by one via a pipe 3 feet in diameter, which was inserted through the rubble of the collapsed tunnel in Uttarakhand, a Himalayan state.

None are thought to have been injured in the landslide that trapped them, and authorities have been supplying them with oxygen, food and water using a narrow pipe.

BBC News says VK Singh, a federal minister, and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh have been welcoming the men coming out of the Dhami Tunnel.

The rescue was impeded by the need to cut through metal rods, with progress also slowed by loose soil and hard rock.
