India: Supreme Court orders protesting doctors back to work

Doctors in India protesting over the rape and murder of a female medic in August, have been ordered back to work by the Supreme Court.

According to Reuters, all protesting doctors must resume duties by Tuesday or face “adverse action.”

Hundreds of doctors across India have stayed off work after the August 9th murder of the trainee medic at the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

A police volunteer was arrested for the crime and the former principal of the college was arrested for alleged graft.

Doctors have been demanding better amenities in government-run hospitals, which they say lack security and basic infrastructure such as resting spaces for staff.
