India beat Ireland by 8 wickets in T20 World Cup

India’s pacers led the charge today to help their side beat Ireland by 8 wickets in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Batting first in New York, Ireland were bowled out for just 96, with Hardik Pandya taking 3/27, while Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh got two wickets each.

India’s chase meanwhile was anything but simple: first they lost Virat Kohli for one run in the third over.

They then lost captain Rohit Sharma with the score on 76, when he was forced to retire hurt after scoring 52 runs.

Another wicket fell with the total on 91, however Rishabh Pant was able to get India over the finish line to 97, striking an unbeaten 36 in the process.

There were concerns about Sharma’s decision to retire hurt, however speaking after the match he reportedly said, “Yeah, just a little sore. I said it at the toss as well. Quite unsure of what to expect from the pitch. Not aware on what it is to play like on a pitch that’s five months old. I don’t think the wicket settled down even when we batted second.”

Today’s action will see two more matches being played tonight: Papua New Guinea will face off against Uganda in Providence, Guyana, while Australia will play Oman in Bridgetown, Barbados.
