An MP has raised a number of questions following yesterday’s meeting between the families of the Paria divers and the Prime Minister.
After the meeting Christopher Boodram, the lone survivor in the 2022 incident that claimed the lives of four men, reportedly said that nothing of substance was said in the meeting.
In response, Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh believes government could have offered some level of compassionate assistance using the social support grants that exist.
Furthermore, he notes that distribution of these grants can done speedily in instances of emergency.
MP Indarsingh also questioned whether government has begun to address the recommendations by the Commission of Enquiry and whether it is addressing the CoE’s call for accountability from Paria’s management and Incident Response Team.
