Working hours have been extended at transit sheds and additional customs officers deployed to address delays in clearing goods.

This is according to Finance Minister Colm Imbert who responded to questions about the situation in the Senate today.

He told the Senate that he discussed the matter with the Comptroller of Customs.

Mr Imbert added that there have been problems with transit sheds.

Mr Imbert explained that measures have been implemented.

The Minister said there needs to be an understanding of the magnitude of the situation, noting that upwards of 150,000 packages are expected this month.
