The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season is officially underway—and the public is being urged to prepare for above-normal storm activity.
“Factors contributing to this increased activity include warmer-than-average sea surface temperatures in the Atlantic and Caribbean, coupled with neutral El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) conditions, which can reduce wind shear and favor storm development.”
Weather experts are predicting a more active season than usual, and the ODPM is urging persons to take their preparedness seriously.
The season runs until November 30th, and the ODPM says persons should create a family emergency plan, assemble emergency supplies, clean drains, trim trees, and reinforce doors and windows.
If help is needed, citizens are encouraged to contact their local disaster management unit.
