Hurricane Beryl leaves at least one dead, 1.5m without power in Houston

At least one death has been reported while around 1.5 million homes and businesses lost power due to Hurricane Beryl in Houston, Texas.

According to AP News, flood warnings were in effect across a stretch of the Texas coast and floods started closing streets in Houston.

It reports that the one confirmed death occurred in the suburb of Humble where a tree fell on a house, trapping a man beneath debris.

The National Hurricane Centre says Beryl is expected to turn toward the northeast with an increase in forward speed is expected tonight and Tuesday.

On the forecast track, the center of Beryl will move over eastern Texas today, then move through the Lower Mississippi Valley into the Ohio Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday.
