The centre of Hurricane Beryl is expected to be passing across the southern coast of Jamaica up until 8pm today.
This is according to the Meteorological Service of Jamaica which said that as early as 8am, the outer bands of the hurricane were already affecting the island.
Rainfall totals of 100 to 200mm are forecast for most areas, along with strong winds and dangerous storm surges.
The island has already been declared a disaster area for a seven-day period by the Prime Minister.
