The Met Service’s Yellow Level Hot Spell Alert is now scheduled to end earlier than previously anticipated.
In an update issued today, it says warm south-easterly trade winds are forecast over the next several days, which will contribute to producing above-normal daily temperatures.
Over the coming week, temperatures are expected to reach near or exceed 34°C in Trinidad and near 33°C or greater in Tobago.
The hottest hours are between 10am and 4pm.
In urban areas, temperatures may exceed 34°C, with “feel-like” temperatures ranging from 34°C to 44°C.
The TTMS says there is a high chance (80%) that this trend will continue until October 16th 2023.
Beyond this period, it says the chances of extremely high daily temperatures diminish, though warm conditions will continue.
The daily temperatures are forecast to return to normal levels for the rest of October.
As such, the TTMS has given October 16th at the end date for its Yellow Level Hot Spell Alert.
The Alert was initially issued for the entire month of October.
