There were 663 murders in the year leading up to September 2023, with the portion of persons arrested and charged being 16%.
This is the information presented by National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds who responded to questions in the Senate today.
Pressed by Independent Senator Dr Paul Richards, Minister Hinds said he is not satisfied with the detection rate, adding that government has been improving the scientific approach to crime fighting.
Minister Hinds noted that efforts are also being made via border protection and by way of legislation.
