With the reopening of schools now days away, the Health Ministry is urging the use of good hygiene practices to avoid viruses.
In a media release, the Ministry referred to conjunctivitis, influenza, hand-foot-and-mouth disease and chickenpox.
It says the following practices should be adopted:
- Wash hands regularly with soap and water – if soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitisers (containing at least 70% alcohol)
- Regularly clean and sanitise high touched surfaces (e.g. door knobs, countertops, desks)
- Avoid sharing personal items like utensils, water bottles, towels and wash rags with others
- Avoid touching your face and eyes
- Avoid close contact with persons who display symptoms of infectious viruses
- Stay away from school or work if you are ill
The Ministry adds that all outbreaks of viruses should be reported to the relevant County Medical Officer.
It also urges parents and guardians to ensure their children are well hydrated, in light of recent sweltering temperatures.
The new school term is scheduled to start on September 4th, 2023.
