The Health Ministry has prioritized the fight against NCDs, including cancer, as a pressing public health issue.
This comes from Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh on World Cancer Day, which is being commemorated today under the theme “United by Unique”.
He says between 2015 and 2020, over 10,000 persons in T&T were living with some form of cancer – prostate cancer was most common among men, while breast cancer was most common among women.
Mr Deyalsingh says the Ministry is focused on preventative healthcare, strengthening primary healthcare services and promoting behaviour changes to ensure healthier lifestyles.
Efforts will also be made to improve cancer treatment services and facilities across the country.
These include enhancements to expand capacity at the NCRHA’s Lung Cancer Clinic, and a ramping up of prostate cancer screenings nationwide.
