The HDC says it has agreed to use materials from an abandoned building in the Fairfield Housing Development to help a socially displaced person.
The matter was first raised by Moruga/Tableland MP Michelle Benjamin who says the individual’s home was affected by adverse weather.
She posted a video to social media to show an abandoned building in Fairfield and to complain that HDC officials ordered her to stop taking materials from the structure.
However, in a media release, the HDC says it has since granted permission to use certain materials in a bid to assist the displaced person.
The HDC says the abandoned structure was a temporary office used during construction works in Fairfield and plans are in place to have it demolished in 2025, pending approvals.
