The HDC has responded to calls by residents of the East Grove Housing Development for lights or gates for safety.

According to the HDC, gates or barriers will increase the cost of the units, rendering them expensive and unattainable for those most in need.

It notes that it may consider installing lights on the compound but adds that developments such as East Grove are managed by management companies.

These, it says, are similar to homeowners associations, which would provide facilities for residents’ comfort and safety.

The HDC is advising the management company for East Grove to consider conducting a survey or hosting a meeting to get the community’s interest to ensure the best course of action is taken.
