An eviction exercise was carried out today at Tarodale Gardens in San Fernando.
In a statement, the Housing Development Corporation says residents were evicted for a breach in their rental agreements.
These breaches included: non-payment of rent since obtaining the property, illegal occupancy due to the death of the original tenant, alternative living arrangements, and relinquishing possession of the properties to relatives.
The HDC says the tenants were pre-warned on two prior occasions, before a final warning was issued on October 5th 2023.
Meanwhile, the HDC says it is continuing its debt collection drive to recover monies owed, a total of $747,874.48, from residents at the Development.
It says while it strives to provide Government-subsidised homes for all its citizens, it must honour its duty to provide shelter for those most deserving citizens and to meet its contractual obligations to its contractors.
It reminds that all HDC property agreements explicitly state that an HDC tenant cannot abandon the property or assign, sublet or otherwise part with possession of the property without the written consent of the HDC.
Further, it says all HDC agreements provide for the termination of the tenancy, if the tenant breaches these terms.
