At least two journalists and a police officer died as gunmen attacked during a ceremony to announce the reopening of Haiti’s biggest public hospital.
The hospital site had been occupied and destroyed by gangs before it was recaptured by Haiti’s government in July.
According to BBC News, the Viv Ansanm gang alliance, which controls most of Port-au-Prince, has owned up to the attack.
In addition to the three who were killed, other journalists were wounded in the attack.
The head of Haiti’s presidential transitional council, Leslie Voltaire, said, “We express our sympathy to all the victims’ families, in particularly to the Haiti National Police and all the journalists’ associations. We guarantee them that this act will not remain without consequences.”
