The Guyana government is lending a hand to T&T in a quest to rebuild this country’s rice industry.
According to the Guyana Chronicle, confirmation of this comes from Guyana Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha.
The Minister reportedly said that the initiative is part of a wider collaboration among regional leaders to reduce the food import bill by 25% by 2025.
He noted that Guyana’s technical people have been working with their T&T counterparts.
According to Mr Mustapha, there are many markets for regional rice after India’s recent ban on foreign exports of non-basmati varieties of rice.
India, the world’s largest rice exporter, made the decision to address local inflation.
