Guyana President: New Local Gov’t Minister soon

Guyana President Dr. Irfaan Ali says a new Minister of Local Government will be appointed soon.

This is according to a report by Newsroom Guyana which says the President was speaking as he administered the Oath of Office to ten Mayors and their Deputies on Monday.

Rape allegations were made by a 16-year-old indigenous girl against former Local Government Minister Nigel Dharamlall, which he denied.

The case was eventually dropped but Dharamlall said he was stepping down to avoid bringing disrepute to the People’s Progressive Party.

Since then, Anand Persaud, who has been the Minister within the Ministry since 2020, has headed the ministry.
