Guyana: Latest moves by Venezuela violate Argyle Declaration

Officials in Guyana are condemning new plans by Venezuela as a violation of the Argyle Declaration.

This comes from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the announcement by Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro about the election of a “Governor of the Guayana Esequiba”.

It believes this plan contradicts the terms of the Argyle Declaration which calls on both countries to refrain from escalating any conflict over the Essequibo region.

The Declaration was signed on December 14th, 2023, in St Vincent.
