A Guyana-born woman has been sentenced to nine and half years in prison over a plot to kill her brother-in-law.
Fox News reports that Reshma Massarone plotted over Facebook Messenger between July and August 2023 and was caught on camera wiring a $2,500 down payment to a would-be hitman.
The woman, a branch manager at a credit union in New York State, pleaded guilty to murder-for-hire and was sentenced on August 27th, 2024.
During the court case, her attorney said that his client had acted “completely out of character” and in a “state of rage.”
The attorney claimed that she had been provoked by her brother-in-law over 25 years after he “was not given the opportunity to marry (Massarone) at age 15.”
From the prosecution’s side, U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said the woman’s “chilling plan to have a member of her own family murdered for the low price of ten thousand dollars” was heartless.
