Grenada’s Prime Minister says the destruction caused by Hurricane Beryl on the mainland is of almost no significance compared to the impact on Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
Speaking at a media conference last night, Dickon Mitchell thanked the St Lucia Prime Minister for the use of a St Lucian helicopter which allowed him access to the islands for the first time since Beryl passed.
PM Mitchell described the scenes as “almost Armageddon-like.”
Local companies and organizations are conducting relief drives to assist Carriacou island.
One is being done by the company Capital Signal, with basic necessities, medical supplies and other items being collected and shipped up to Grenada.
SewaTT and Heart of the Village Foundation were organising a relief effort with a sailing set last night to take the items there.
