Grenada moves to abolish death penalty

Grenada is planning to remove the death penalty as a punishment for a criminal offence, however a public consultative process will be held before the final decision is confirmed.

This announcement was made by Crown Counsel Rae Thomas during Grenada’s Universal Period Review, which took place in Geneva on May 5th.

She said Grenada remains open to receiving international support and technical assistance to help facilitate this important conversation.

Ms Thomas added that the last hanging occurred to occur in Grenada happened in 1978, and there has been no state hanging since.
