To commemorate the International Day of Potato on May 30th, 2024, the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has planned a global celebration.

The theme for this inaugural celebration is “Harvesting Diversity, Feeding Hope”.

The FAO says this emphasizes the fact that, with more than 5,000 varieties, there is ample choice with potatoes in a time when many agri-food systems are under threat worldwide.

According to the FAO, to celebrate the day, a high-level ceremony will be hosted at its Rome headquarters and webcast at fao.org.

The International Day of Potato is an event that builds on the success of the International Year of the Potato, observed in 2008.
