Gérard Besson dies at age 81

Publisher, historian, folklorist and author Gérard A. Besson has passed away at the age of 81.

According to reports, he died peacefully at his home after a period of illness.

Mr Besson was renowned as a social historian and curated several museums in Trinidad, as well as a number of exhibitions.

He also served as a member of or advisor to various Government-appointed work groups, and was awarded the Humming Bird Medal (Gold) for Heritage Preservation and Promotion in 2007.

Additionally, he founded Paria Publishing in 1981 and served as Chairman until shortly before his death.
