Gangs are threatening to seize power in Haiti and CARICOM is expressing deep concern as escalating instability continues on the island.

In a statement, the regional body condemned the attempts by violent action to interfere with the arrangements for the country’s elections and its return to a constitutional authority.

It also warned that further violence will only deepen Haiti’s worsening humanitarian crisis and called on the international community to intervene with the necessary steps to support Haitian authorities.
