Fuel, drugs, $$$ seized in South West Trinidad

Fuel, cash and narcotics have been seized by police as part of efforts to dismantle a Drug Trafficking Network operating out of the South Western Peninsula.

The TTPS says intelligence suggested that the network was amassing large quantities of diesel from various service stations throughout Southern and South Western Trinidad.

The fuel was to be traded for narcotics from another Drug Trafficking Network based in South America.

A coordinated exercise was carried out in Los Iros yesterday, with a search warrant executed at Persad Drive.

There, officers found 60 barrels of fuel and held a man who claimed to be the owner the items but could not provide any documentation.

Further intelligence and surveillance then led officers to Mulchan Trace in Siparia, where they found 80 packets of high-grade marijuana in a Toyota Aqua.

The drugs weighed 43 kilograms and worth an estimated TT$6,442,260.

The officers also found $125,500 TT and $100 US currency in the vehicle, with three suspects arrested.

Regarding the haul, Police Commissioner Erla Christopher said, “Hard working and dedicated officers are out on the beat, working to make our country safe, and we are seeing the evidence of their persistent and consistent efforts with yet another meaningful seizure, that thwarts the plans of those involved in transnational crime.”
