The Freedom Flotilla Coalition says the seizure of its vessel, “the Madleen”, by Israel is a violation of international law, which defies the binding orders of the International Court of Justice that allow unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza.
The ship, seized by Isreal’s naval forces on Sunday, was transporting humanitarian aid, including baby formula, food and medical supplies.
Those on the vessel include Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and a French member of the European parliament.
In a statement via its website, the pro-Palestinian Coalition called for the immediate release of all abducted volunteers, the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid directly to Palestinians and full accountability for the military assaults on Madleen and Conscience.
Reuters reported that on Sunday, Israel’s Defence Minister ordered the military to prevent “the Madleen”, the humanitarian aid ship from reaching Gaza.
He called the mission a propaganda effort in support of Hamas, adding that the Foreign Ministry will ensure the aid would be taken to Gaza through valid humanitarian agencies.
