The Fraud Squad is urging persons to check the legitimacy of car dealers via the Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs.
This as a Barrackpore businessman was granted bail on fraud charges stemming from payments towards a panel van.
According to police, a victim paid $61,000 via cheque for the purchase and importation of the Nissan vehicle valued at $122,000, with delivery scheduled for January 2021.
However, the vehicle was allegedly never delivered and attempts to recover the down payment proved futile.
Following investigations, Stefon Rabindrunauth was arrested and charged with fraudulent conversion.
He appeared in court on Monday, was granted bail and is due back in court on January 14th, 2025.
The Fraud Squad is reminding the public that it can be contacted with any concerns about specific individuals or businesses.
