Former SRP faces drug charge

A former Special Reserve Police Officer has been charged following the discovery of one million dollars worth of marijuana this week.

The 33-year-old was held on Wednesday night during a drug suppression exercise in Matura.

After searching his Nissan B-14, officers allegedly found 15 rectangular packets containing 7.5 kilogrammes of the drug.

The man was subsequently charged with Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Trafficking and was due before a Sangre Grande Magistrate today.

Meanwhile, during the same operation, police recovered a blue Nissan Almera reported stolen on June 6th in Las Lomas.

The vehicle was stopped in the vicinity of Salybia Bay Road, after the driver was spotted without his seatbelt.

While issuing a fixed penalty notice, WPC Treavajo noticed discrepancies in the vehicle’s information.

The 27-year-old man was then detained and following further enquiries the vehicle was found to have been stolen.

The case has since been transferred to the Las Lomas Police Post.
