Former NCIC President Deokinanan Sharma has passed away

Former NCIC President, Dr. Deokinanan Sharma, has passed away.

He was 87.

103.1FM News understands he died this afternoon after ailing for some time.

Dr. Sharma served the National Council of Indian Culture for several decades, most notably as President until 2023.

He was awarded the Humming Bird Medal (Gold) for his contribution to local culture.

Among those paying tribute is NCIC 1st Vice President Surujdeo Mangaroo, who said, “Dr. Sharma was not only an influential figure but also a source of inspiration and guidance for many. His passion, wisdom, and commitment to cultural advancement will be sorely missed.”

103.1FM News also spoke with current NCIC President Deoroop Teemal, who praised Dr Sharma’s legacy.

The Chairman, Board of Directors, Management and Staff of 103.1FM wish to extend sincere condolences on the passing of Dr. Sharma.
