The T&T Fire Service says it did not issue any statement regarding the UNC event at the Centre of Excellence in Macoya yesterday.
A document bearing the TTFS logo was reportedly shared on the UNC’s Facebook page.
It allegedly stated that the doors to the venue had to be closed since it was filled to capacity, with more persons continuing to arrive.
The document was subsequently removed from the post.
Still in the page however is a caption which pointed to the venue having reached maximum capacity, and thanking the TTFS for their cooperation.
A statement subsequently sent to the media by the TTFS sought to correct the record saying, “The Chief Fire Officer would like to inform the public that the press release sent out bearing the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service letterhead with the subject matter “United National Congress Event” was malicious in nature and erroneous. At no time during the event, which was held today at the Centre of Excellence Macoya, were the organizers advised to close the doors for any reason.”
