Finance Minister responds to Opposition Leader’s comments in Auditor General matter

Finance Minister Colm Imbert has responded to the Opposition Leader’s call for him to be investigated following Cabinet’s announcement last week to discontinue the probe into the Auditor General.

Mr Imbert recused himself from the handling of documents which were handed over to the Auditor General, adding it has been always been done by officials in the Finance Ministry.

He also highlighted that  an accounting error at the Central Bank was responsible for the miscalculation of funds and clarified that the error was discovered by Budget Personnel not the Auditor General.

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar claimed that the investigation into Auditor General Jaiwantee Ramdass was a calculated assault on her independent office and asked for Mr Imbert’s conduct in the matter to be independently investigated.
