4 dead after shootout and crash in St. Augustine

An innocent bystander was killed by a stray bullet after gunmen ran through Spring Village in St Augustine yesterday.

In all, four persons were killed, with the other three being targets of the suspects.

The incident unfolded shortly after 2pm, after a white wagon ran off the West Bound lane of the highway into a sign post pillar near a business place.

Three occupants then ran into the village and were chased by the gunmen.

One man was shot and killed while still behind the wheel, another was shot on the highway and a third was killed outside a resident’s house.

The dead men have been identified as: Damien Cross of St Paul Street, Port of Spain; 31-year-old Ricardo Levi Cross of East Dry River, Port of Spain and 30-year-old Jerry Hollingsworth of Tillbury Place, Laventille.

The innocent villager, 51-year-old Lana Sahadeo, was fatally shot as she looked out her window.

Meanwhile, following Ms Sahadeo’s death, St Augustine MP Khadijah Ameen is calling on the Minister of National Security to do more to reduce crime and murders.

In a statement posted to Facebook, she says the incident did not involve any residents, yet resulted in the death of an innocent woman.

She adds that in recent months residents of Spring Village formed an active neighborhood watch following an uptick in crime in the area.
