Factory Road Bridge, which crosses the Caparo River, has been cordoned off as the structure has begun to collapse.
Video footage shows significant cracks appearing on the carriageway and at the base of the bridge.
According to Chaguanas Mayor Faaiq Mohammed, the bridge itself has dropped about 18 inches.
He adds that this is the 3rd bridge to collapse in Chaguanas in recent years – the other two are the Randy Carter Bridge and Bridal Road Bridge.
He is now calling on the Works Ministry to prioritize repairs to the bridge, which he says links Chaguanas to Couva.
