A former police commissioner believes there has been a “virtual shutdown” of the TTPS Gender-Based Violence Unit (GBVU).
Mr Gary Griffith, who is now leader of the National Transformation Alliance, issued a statement following allegations by the UNC Political Leader of paedophilia by politicians.
He says, in addition to a “watering down” of the GBVU, there has been a removal of reporting systems, leaving perpetrators feeling emboldened.
Mr Griffith says his party is committed to re-establishing the unit to its full capacity, along with online reporting systems and a dedicated hotline.
He believes these were critical in protecting victims, including children.
