EOT takes issue with newspaper article on Veera Bhajan case

The Equal Opportunity Tribunal has taken issue with a newspaper article which stated that it had been ordered to reinstate Veera Bhajan as a lay assessor.

The article claimed the order came from the Appeal Court yesterday.

In a release, the EOT clarified that Ms Bhajan has been active in her role, beginning her first term in 2021 and second term in 2024.

It adds that any claims suggesting Ms Bhajan was prevented from serving in her capacity as a Lay Assessor or that she was recently reinstated are incorrect.

Yesterday the Appeal Court ruled in favour of Ms Bhajan by dismissing claims brought by the Equal Opportunity Tribunal Chairman, Donna Prowell-Raphael.

The Chairman challenged a High Court judge ruling which reportedly found that she acted in bad faith by not allowing Ms Bhajan take up her President-appointed position of lay-assessor with the tribunal.
