“Shōgun” had historic wins following an epic first season that has now seen it win 18 Emmys.

The FX series about power struggles in feudal Japan, won best drama series, Hiroyuki Sanada won best actor in a drama, and Anna Sawai won best actress.

Sanada was the first Japanese actor to win an Emmy and Sawai became the second just moments later.

Along with 14 Emmys claimed at the precursor Creative Arts Emmys, “Shōgun” had an unmatched performance with 18 overall for one season.

Also winning big was “Baby Reindeer” which picked up four trophies.

The show’s creator and star, Scottish comedian Richard Gadd, won three of those – for acting in, writing and executive producing the show- while his co-star Jessica Gunning was named best supporting actress in a limited series.

The show is Gadd’s account of his real life experience of being stalked by a woman for several years and being sexually abused by a male TV industry figure.

It also made headlines when the real-life woman who allegedly inspired the stalker took action to sue Netflix for defamation, negligence and privacy violations.

In the comedy categories, The Bear won three acting awards including best comedy actor for Jeremy Allen White, who plays Carmy, for the second year in a row.

His co-stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Liza Colon-Zayas took the supporting awards.

The show, set in a highly pressured restaurant kitchen, once again raised eyebrows for being nominated in the comedy section instead of drama.
