The EMA is urging members of the public to provide any evidence related to excavation works at Turtle Beach.
It comes as the Authority investigates the recent destruction of a turtle nesting site at the Tobago location.
The EMA says a critical part of the investigative process is determining the person or persons who authorized the excavation works at the beach, and the owner/operator of the excavator.
It reminds that leatherback turtles are designated as an Environmentally Sensitive Species and knowingly or recklessly conducting any activity that adversely impacts them is in contravention of the Environmental Management Act Chap. 35:05.
This carries a penalty of two years imprisonment and a fine of $100,000.
The EMA says persons with evidence can contact its Hotline at 367-8824, email complaints@ema.co.tt, or call 226-4EMA Ext #5.
It assures that all information will be treated in the strictest confidence.
