The EMA and the T&T Police Service have met regarding the way forward in dealing with noise pollution.

This meeting on November 3rd followed an Appeal Court judgment against a promoter.

A judge initially ruled in favour of the promoter whose Carnival event was shut down in February 2019 for noise level breaches.

The EMA was successful in its appeal last month, with the Court stating that the noise was deemed a “public nuisance.”

The joint release says the TTPS has recommitted to treating with noise pollution, since the Court held that part of a police officer’s duty is to abate a public nuisance.

The EMA adds that it will continue to support the TTPS via an ongoing training regime for officers in the use of noise meters.

Discussions are also continuing regarding an increase in the number of Police Officers in the EMA’s Environmental Police Unit.

The EMA and TTPS are also reminding the public to report residential noise pollution to the nearest police station and commercial/industrial noise pollution to the EMA via 367-8824.
