Education Ministry – take measures against hot conditions in schools

The Education Ministry has taken note of the Met Service’s Hot Spell Warning, and has advised parents, teachers, and administrators to take precautionary measures.

According to the Ministry, some measures may include:

  • Ensuring students remain hydrated (students should be advised to drink coowater, not sweetened or carbonated beverages)
  • Using any available outdoor shaded spaces for class time where possible (adjustments to normal school operations may be required during this period)
  • Monitoring students exposure to direct sunlight

It also says staff and students should be monitored for signs of heat-related illness.

The Hot Spell Warning states there is a high probability for temperatures near 34°C or greater until September 29th, 2023.
