An earthquake swarm was recorded yesterday at the Soufrière Hills Volcano.
The Montserrat Volcano Observatory says the brief but intense swarm began around 10:20am yesterday and lasted about 90 minutes.
93 events were recorded – the strongest two were magnitude 3.3.
The MVO says the events were located at depths of 2-3 kilometres beneath the dome.
It adds that this was “probably the most intense seen since the pause began on 11 February 2010. It is comparable to a VT [Volcano-Tectonic] swarm on 23 March 2012, which lasted almost three hours and was accompanied by ash venting.”
There was no ash venting associated with yesterday’s swarm.
