Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the country’s earthquake protocols have been activated after a tremor occurred at 10:57am today.
In a Facebook video, he also said the magnitude of the quake was approximately 5.6, and it was centred around Buff Bay in Portland.
According to the Prime Minister, there were minor damages and no reports of any deaths.
Videos taken during the quake have been circulating on social media.
One video showed items and products falling off shelves at a supermarket, while another displayed workers outside in Kingston’s Corporate Area after buildings were evacuated.
