Donald Trump sworn in as US President

Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.

Held in the rotunda of the US Capitol, the ceremony was attended by tech billionaires, cabinet nominees and former presidents.

Speaking afterward, Mr Trump said, “Our top priority will be to create a nation that is proud, prosperous and free.”

He also criticized the previous administration as providing sanctuary and protection for “dangerous criminals” who  illegally entered the country.

According to BBC News, the President is set to declare a “national emergency” at the US-Mexico border, declare drug cartels as terrorists, and scrap government diversity programmes as part of a blitz of executive orders in the coming hours.

However, officials say he won’t announce tariffs on trade partners today.
