Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh insists construction of the Central Block at the Port of Spain General Hospital is complete.
Speaking to 103.1FM News today, the Minister explained that Monday’s ceremony was meant to acknowledge that fact, and show off a model ward.
He added that some outfitting needs to be done, with the facility to be ready for patients by July.
The Minister’s comments have been backed by UDECOTT which says Monday’s ceremony marked the end of Phase 3, which is the construction phase.
It adds that Phase 4 includes outfitting with furniture; the installation, testing and commissioning of medical equipment; and training of staff.
The statements from both the Minister and UDECOTT come on the heels of videos on social media, which claim that the hospital was incomplete.
This has prompted Opposition members such as Fyzabad MP Dr Lackram Bodoe to call for answers.
Also commenting was San Juan/Barataria MP Saddam Hosein who believes Monday’s opening was simply a show.
