Dengue Update: no additional deaths confirmed

The latest Dengue update from the Health Ministry shows more confirmed cases, but no additional fatalities.

As of today, the Ministry says there are 1,437 lab confirmed cases and 18 lab confirmed deaths.

It adds that 1,176 yellow fever notices have so far been issued to property owners/occupiers, directing them to clean up their surroundings.

Of these, 70 have been identified for the consideration/institution of legal proceedings for non-compliance.

The Ministry reminds that Dengue may be spread by the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Symptoms appear within 5-6 days of being bitten, last for 1-2 weeks and can include:

  • Fever
  • Headaches (sometimes severe)
  • Pain behind eyes
  • Muscle and joint pains
  • Skin rash
  • Nausea/Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea

Anyone showing signs or symptoms should seek immediate medical treatment.

The Ministry adds that persons with symptoms should not use aspirin, motrin, cataflam, olfen or ibuprofen, as these can cause bleeding which leads to shock.

They are instead advised to use paracetamol, acetaminophen (Panadol/Tylenol) or medicines prescribed by a doctor.
