Delay in efforts to re-float and tow overturned vessel

Recent bad weather has delayed efforts to re-float the overturned vessel off the coast of Cove in Tobago.

The Energy Ministry says the re-float and tow phase of operations was supposed to be executed between August 5th and 10th 2024.

The next window of opportunity will now be based on the advice of international experts who have been retained to manage this part of the process.

The vessel, which spilled hydrocarbon material into Tobago’s waters earlier this year, remains overturned and unmoved from its location.

Prior to the start of the refloat and tow phase, there was a de-inventory phase which saw approximately 32,303 barrels of hydrocarbons being successfully pumped from the barge.
